About Dump Nearby
Dump Nearby answers three questions for someone with a loaded truck: where is the nearest place to dump it, when is it open, and what will it cost. It currently lists 4859 facilities across 50 states, every one of them traced to a public record.
Who runs it
Dump Nearby is published by Luna Directories, an independent publisher based in Virginia, USA. It is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any landfill operator, waste hauler, county or state agency. Nobody pays to be listed, and no facility can pay to rank higher.
Editor: Berkcan K. The editor builds the dataset, writes the guides and tools, checks every enriched record (hours, fees, accepted materials) against the operator's own page or a county document before it is published, and handles corrections. Registry fields (acreage, tonnage, permit status) are imported from the EPA and state agency exports named below and are not re-checked by hand; each listing says which is which in its sources line. Reach the editor at hello@dumpnearby.com.
Method, in short
We start from bulk public datasets (the EPA Landfill Methane Outreach Program database and state environmental agency permit lists), normalize each record into one listing per physical facility, and then add contact details only when a public primary source confirms them. Each listing page shows its sources and the date the record was last checked. The full process, including what we do with conflicting records, is on the data and methodology page.
Data sources
- EPA LMOP landfill database (ownership, waste in place, gas collection, acreage, opening and planned closure years).
- State solid-waste permit registries such as CalRecycle SWIS and TCEQ (permit status, permitted activities, throughput limits).
- Facility and county websites, used for phone numbers, hours and fee schedules where a facility publishes them.
Coverage is uneven and we say so on every page: 1442 listings have a confirmed phone number so far, and 580 meet our bar for appearing in search results. The rest stay reachable on the site, flagged as unconfirmed, until the missing facts are verified; more are checked every week.
What we never publish
No star ratings, no reviews, no "verified" badges, no estimated hours or fees. If a facility has not published its gate hours, its page says "not confirmed" rather than guessing. Fee figures on the site are copied from the facility's own schedule or a cited county document, never averaged from other sites. The tools on the site cite EPA and EREF figures by name so you can check them.
Corrections
Found an error or a closed gate? Use the correction form or the "Suggest a correction" link at the bottom of any facility page. We check every submission against the facility or its permitting agency before publishing, usually within a week, and we record the source of the change on the listing. Owners and operators can use the same form to claim a listing and keep it current.
Advertising, sponsorship and funding
The site is free to use and is funded by display advertising and labelled sponsorships. Ad slots reserve their space so pages do not jump while loading, and advertisers have no influence over which facilities are listed or how they are described. See the privacy policy for what ad partners can collect.
Advertising disclosure. Some city and facility pages carry a card labelled Sponsored from a local hauling or junk removal business that pays a monthly fee for that spot. Sponsors are advertisers, not facilities: they never change which facilities are listed, their order, or any fact about them, and their links are marked rel="sponsored". The site also shows display ads from an ad network, which are labelled and kept apart from the directory data. We may earn money from both; neither buys a recommendation. See how sponsorship works and the sponsorship terms.
